Biography

Personal Scream
Picture 1
EXT/ DAY / Avenue in Bucaramanga
Great civic student march. The harangues of different political groups can be heard, there are many flags and colorful acronyms. Among the crowd stands out Kiko (26) with an afro and mime makeup, who comes with a large group of men who laugh and make jokes. Then we see Mimi, tall and thin, comes with the group that raises the flag of "Let's fight", they come seriously while they sing their harangue. In the middle of the hubbub, the crowd and the confusion, by fate, the eyes of Mimi and Kiko cross. Time stops.
INT / NIGHT / DAY / Various locations
Burst of images: two peasants from Santander dance close together in a caney. In a rural kitchen in Barrancabermeja a cook and a worker are sitting at a table about to kiss. Mimi and Kiko are hiding from danger under a table in the university cafeteria. At the same moment the three couples kiss. A bomb goes off. In a Bogotá hospital a baby, red and with hair, lets out her first cry. The flames consume one of the refineries in Barrancabermeja. The two peasants hide in a cave. Mimi and Kiko dance to "The Voice of the Eighties" in a disco. The cook, who is holding a small child by the hand, helplessly watches the fire. A boa constrictor crawls between the baskets of a warehouse. Mimi, Kiko, some children and other young people run around having fun on the beach. The cook, now older, is sitting in a rocking chair at the entrance of her house watching people go by. Kiko is running a bicycle race. Mimi and a group of peasant women are sitting in a circle making posters. Mimi takes a photo of the peasant couple in their new premises in San Andresito de Santa Marta. Kiko is miming on a stage in a village.

INT / DAY / A middle-class room in Bogotá
A girl sits in her room in Bogotá.
GIRL (voice-over):
If I had to talk about myself. If I had to say who I am. I would remember in images the memories that I did not live, but that are mine. The memories that are silent stories in the memories of those who walked behind me to help me get to where I am today. I would remember those memories with images that did not happen, images that I invented. But that in my memory explain better or help me remember who I am. Maybe my parents did not meet at a student march. But they did when they were studying at the UIS in Bucaramanga and when each one was a militant in a time when, like today, leaders and students disappeared. And that memory, mine, true and fabricated, reminds me of everything that was around them when they met. If I had to try to explain where I come from, I would try to understand, first, that I come from love and violence. That the love of many brought me to life, in a world full of misery and horror. That my grandmother had my father through a brief affair she had in the kitchens for Ecopetrol workers, where she worked to resist poverty. That my mother's parents came to Santa Marta fleeing rural poverty and there they found opportunities but also death. While my mother was the first in her family to graduate from university, other uncles faced the violence of smuggling.
If I had to tell my life story, I would say that a few years ago I decided to listen to my body and I realized that I want to tell and read stories. My own and others'. I want to try to understand this world that is so beautiful and so horrible at the same time. I want to know who I am. Through History, Literature and Theater. I study the stories that others have told about the past. I listen to the stories that are told today. And I make stories in which I am myself and I am someone else through writing and the stage. I look for stories about life, from the life of a young middle class in Bogotá, which comes from the stories of Santander, the coast... indigenous, Spanish, Arab and African...
